Stars Reach on Console, Mac, Linux and Steam Deck
The one-line answer
Stars Reach runs on Windows only. The Steam store page’s platform flags list Windows true, macOS false, Linux false — and there is no announced console version for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch or mobile.
That is not a temporary listing gap. It is the current shipped state of an Early Access game two weeks past launch.
What each platform question actually resolves to
PS5 and Xbox. Nothing has been announced. Stars Reach does not appear on either console storefront, and Playable Worlds has published no port plan. The official roadmap is explicitly framed as a record of intentions rather than promises, and consoles are not on it.
Mac. No macOS build exists on Steam. There is no Apple silicon version and no Rosetta path, because there is no Mac binary to translate.
Linux and Steam Deck. No native Linux build, and therefore no Steam Deck Verified or Playable rating — Valve rates what it can test, and there is nothing here to rate. Running it through Proton is a community experiment rather than a supported configuration, and the 16 GB minimum RAM requirement is a hard problem on Deck hardware regardless of how well the translation layer performs.
Cloud gaming. No GeForce Now listing has been announced. Cloud availability is decided by the publisher opting in, and Playable Worlds has not said it has.
Mobile. Not applicable — there is no announcement of any kind, and the game’s system requirements point in the opposite direction.
The specs that explain the Windows-only choice
| Requirement | Minimum |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 |
| Processor | 64-bit processor |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 1070 or AMD RX 580 or better |
| Network | Broadband Internet connection |
Playable Worlds publishes no recommended column and no storage figure — the minimum row above is the entire published specification.
The number to notice is 16 GB of RAM in the minimum row. That is double what a typical Early Access shooter asks for, and it is there because every planet is a running simulation rather than a static level: water flowing, forests burning, creatures migrating, terrain persisting. Our planets page covers what the simulation is actually doing.
Full details, including what the missing recommended spec implies, are on the system requirements page.
Controller support
The Steam store page lists Partial Controller Support and specific DualSense Controller Support. Partial is Valve’s own term and means exactly what it says — a controller works for some of the experience, not all of it. For a game this heavy on tool-swapping, inventory management and a paginated skill window, expect to keep a keyboard within reach.
Language support
English only. No other languages are listed on the store page. If you are searching for Stars Reach in Polish, German, Japanese or Portuguese — and people are — the game itself has no localisation yet.
What would change this
A console or Mac version would be announced through the same channels every other Stars Reach change arrives on: the Steam news feed, starsreach.com, and the fireside chats on the official Twitch and YouTube channels. Nothing on those channels currently points at a port. This page carries the date it was checked, and platform status is one of the things re-verified on every pass.
Thanks for the feedback!
